Michael Gates Gill, will read from and sign copies of his new book How to Save Your Own Life 15 Lessons on Finding Hope in Unexpected Places.
Gill is the son of New Yorker writer Brendan Gill and he was a creative director at J. Walter Thompson Advertising where he was employed for over 25 years. After losing his marriage and his job, Gates was diagnosed with a brain tumor. His bestselling memoir, How Starbucks Saved My Life chronicled his life-changing experiences working in a Starbucks after this series of catastrophes required him to start life over in his 60s. He lives in New York near the Starbucks store where he works, with no plans to retire from what he calls the best job he's ever had.
How to Save Your Own Life is a response to his many readers who have written to him seeking advice on surviving and overcoming their own personal catastrophes. He has distilled his hard-earned wisdom into fifteen lessons in simplicity, such as, "Sometimes it pays to leap without looking and say yes without thinking." Gill is proof that happiness can found in simplicity and his book offers words of hope for anyone facing sudden, involuntary simplicity.
