When this book was first published, A Cappella wasn’t even a glimmer in Frank Reiss’s eight-year-old eye. By the time we opened in 1989, The Nashville Sound was long out of print. Since it embodied what A Cappella strived to represent—great writing about a subject we were passionate about, and one that was ignored by most book people—we made every effort to keep it in stock (not an easy task). An early dream-come-true in A Cappella’s history was meeting and befriending Paul Hemphill. A later one, and still one of the best, was reprinting this classic book in 2005. We’ve since ceded our rights to the University of Georgia Press, but we hope the current publisher will keep it in print forever. It really was the first book to take country music seriously, and it remains one of the best.
