A solid calf binding with typical shelf wear. Foxing throughout, including on the four fold-out folding tables in rear, all present. A rival of Alexander Hamilton's Federalism, in fervent opposition to public debt, Gallatin eventually served as Thomas Jefferson's Secretary of the Treasury. He composed this sketch while serving in the House of Representatives.There, he created the House Committee on Finance, which later became the Ways and Means Committee.
