Pastors and Masters: A Study
Heath Cranton, 1925. First Edition. Cloth. Used - Very Good / Very Good. Item #232137
ISBN: 281BYO1014974
This was Ivy Compton Burnett's (1884 - 1969) 2nd published novel, but it was the first considered canon by the author. The author consider her actual first novel Dolores (1911) the sort of thing one wrote as a girl, according to The Penguin Companion to Literature (1971) . It would seem to stretch the notion of 'a girl', especially by the standards of that era, considering Ms. Compton Burnett was 27 when Dolores was published. Pasters & Masters presumably is up to snuff because it reads pretty much like every other Compton Burnett novel. This is a UK first/ first. In custom made box. In very good dustjacket: NOT clipped. No tears. No chipping. Mild grey smudges from years of handling show on this light colored dustjacket. Rust red cloth with black lettering. No previous ownership inscriptions. Tanning/darkening to end pages. The boards are clean and unfaded. The spine ends lightly bruised. Clean, bright interiors. A few stray spots to textblock edges. Remarkably clean overall without foxing. Tight binding.
