Random House, 1951. Book Club. Cloth. Used - Very Good / Good. Item #240455
Book-of-the-month club edition In heavily foxed dustjacket with 3 & 1/2-inch closed tear from top at front fold. Navy blue cloth covered boards with pattern of tiny pale blue fleurs-de-lis upon spine & front board. Worn at top & bottom of spine: cloth has thumb nail sized tear at its edge. Binding solid. Spine is leaning slightly. Mildly darkened textblock edges. Unmarked internal text. Tiny pale blue blind-stamped bookclub mark (matching fleurs-de-lis coloring on opposite side) bottom right corner rear board. Small silver lion emblem stands alone on left side of front board. It is a lion that resembles George R.R. Martin's House Lannister lion. Likewise and more so this lion looks like the historical House of Plantagenet's several lions as well as branch Houses of York & Lancaster lions. There are so many lions, but I am not sure what this one is doing here. Perhaps it has to do with the plot and the character Marquis Charles-Edouard de Valhubert. I do not recall if Charles-Edouard is lion associated.
