This is two books of 192 pages bound together: 1. Magic , Pretended Mirarcles, and Remarkable Natural Phenomena; 2. Remarkable Delusions or illustrations of Popular Errors. 16mo. {sextodecimo} 3 & 1/2' x 5 & 1/2'; Small leather bound worn at edges and spine hinges. Gold lettering on spine & gold lettering & stamped gold emblem centered front board. Top of spine is chipped (missing segment of leather 1/4-inch x 1/2-inch. Textblock top, bottom and fore-edge is gilt, and looks pretty good considering it is probably 175 years old thereabout. There is no publication date listed though my information suggest this was published in 1848. It does say that the Religious Tract Society was 'instituted, 1799.' Consoladated with the lack of a publication date in the cause of anonymity there is also no author, editor or name of any contributor attached herein. Hinges starting at gutter between first and second unpaginated sheet of front end of book and the gutter at end pages at back. Yet both remain sound by virtue of strong threads. There is residue and fragments of a bookplate affixed front pastedown. The leather cover appears to have been married to this volume rebound at some date between 1848 and the present century. The lettering on the spine reads simply 'Magic', appropriately enough. The emblem on the front board reads, less appropriately: 'Royal Circus Institution Edinburgh'. (384)
