Item #249690 Suspense. Joseph Conrad, Richard Curle.

Suspense

J.M. Dent & Sons, Ltd., 1925. First Edition. Cloth. Used - Good / No Jacket. Item #249690

This was Conrad's last novel. Posthumously published and unfinished it was issued only a few months after the great, Polish author's death at 66 years of age, August 1966. Conrad can be likened to writers such as Samuel Beckett and Vladimir Nabokov. if only for their choice of language. Nabokov was a Russian author who for the 2nd half of his writing career began writing in English instead of his native language. In similar fashion Beckett quite early in his career ceased writing in his native English, and began to write all his literary works in the language of his adopted home of France. Conrad chose to write his literary works in English despite the fact he did not speak English well. Nabokov, never a fan of the famous Polish novelist once wrote, and I paraphrase, that he differed from Joseph Conradically. This is the first British Trade edition of Suspense. Burgundy cloth with stamped and color washed black letterng on spine and blind stamped emblem centered on front panel. The spine is leaning. Mild wear. Tanning and previous owner's name inked front free end page. Foxing & dust staining to textblock edges, as well as black topstain. (303 pages plus four pages of advertisements for available titles from J.M. Dent & Sons by W.H. Hudson.)
