Join the Georgia Poetry Society and the Georgia Center for the Book for a reading and book signing with poet Jericho Brown. His recent collection, "The Tradition," was shortlisted for the National Book Award and selected for the 2019 list of Books All Georgians Should Read.

This event is part of the Georgia Poetry Society’s quarterly meeting, which will take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, the 25th of January. Meetings are packed with poetry programming, including member readings, featured poets, poetry workshops, and various talks on poetry-related topics. They are free and open to the public. Come for the entire meeting, or just for the reading, which will begin at 11 a.m. A Cappella will have copies of the author's books, "The Tradition" and "The New Testament" available for purchase. 

About the Author

Jericho Brown is the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard, and the National Endowment for the Arts, and he is the winner of the Whiting Writer's Award. Brown’s first book, "Please," won the American Book Award. His second book, "The New Testament," won the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award. His third collection is "The Tradition." His poems have appeared in The Bennington Review, Buzzfeed, Fence, jubilat, The New Republic, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, TIME magazine, and several volumes of The Best American Poetry. He is an associate professor and the director of the Creative Writing Program at Emory University.

Now in its 39th year, the Georgia Poetry Society, a name which was amended from the early Georgia State Poetry Society, was founded in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 30, 1979 by late poets and friends Edward Davin Vickers and Charles J. Bruehler. The majority are Georgians, but members from other states are welcome partners.
